On April 10, 2019, the Chicago City Council approved a complete overhaul of the city’s building codes to bring new development into the 21st century. This sweeping regulatory update changed everything from what materials we use to construct new buildings to safety protocols in high rises to the rules around converting your basement into a rec room.
